Tintype
Jack and Beverly Wilgus Collection

This is another of several rare items Jack and Beverly have generously scanned from their large collection (check out their website!) for display on Kodakgirl. The inscription at the top reads "The Three Danmid" and at the bottom, "Wilhelmina, Greek Slave & Danmid". According to Beverly, "An art history professor to whom I showed the tintype suggested they might mean the "Danaids", the 50 daughters of Danaus in Greek mythology. "Greek Slave" surely refers to the Hiram Powers statue of that name. "Wilhemina" I have no idea about." If you can suggest what the references mean please let us know.
