These CDVs with similar back marks present an intriguing identification problem. The one above was taken by Mrs. E. H. Gillett of Le Roy, New York and the pair below, both with tax stamps, by Miss Gillett of Saline Michigan. The tax stamp indicates the photograph was taken during the Civil War by a photographer on the Union side between 1864-1866.

Were the two women related, perhaps mother and daughter? Or did Mrs. Gillet get divorced, move to Michigan and retain her professional name? Your guess is as good as mine.
